The Weeknd Set to Headline 2021 Super Bowl Halftime Show

The Weeknd hits the stage in Tampa on February 7, 2021.

The NFL has announced its headliner for the 2021 Super Bowl. Grammy-winning recording artist The Weeknd will hit the stage in Tampa on February 7, 2021.

"We all grow up watching the world's biggest acts playing the Super Bowl," he said in a statement. "One can only dream of being in that position. I'm humbled, honored and ecstatic to be the center of that infamous stage this year."

The halftime show is now co-produced by Roc Nation and Pepsi. Back in September, the two companies announced the hiring of Jesse Collins, the first Black executive producer of the Super Bowl halftime show.

In a statement, Jay-Z called Collins "one of the only executive producers that speak fluent 'artist vision," citing his "insight and understanding create both extraordinary shows and true cultural moments."

Collins earned an Emmy nomination last year due to his role in producing the 61st annual Grammy awards. He also served as executive producer on John Lewis: Celebrating a Hero, CBS' special honoring John Lewis after his death.

The Weeknd is on the heels of the success of his fourth studio album, After Hours. The album broke the record for most global pre-downloads in Apple Music history, with over 1 million users adding the album to their library before it was released. It debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, his fourth album to peak so far. The album earned the most first-week album sales in 2020 at the time of its release.
