Tracy Morgan's New Comedy Special To Premiere On Netflix

Don't Call It A Comeback: Tracy Morgan Announces Massive 'Picking Up The Pieces' Tour For 2016

Tracy Morgan will be making his return to stand-up with his own Netflix special.

Titled Staying Alive, the special was taped during a performance at New Jersey’s landmark Count Basie Theatre. Here is a synopsis of Staying Alive, courtesy of Netflix.

"Tracy Morgan's Staying Alive finds the comedy icon exploring his fresh take on life, career and mortality in the wake of surviving a devastating near-fatal traffic collision in 2014. From coping with a traumatic brain injury and learning to walk again to 'falling for' his physical therapist and deciding that maybe getting older isn't such a bad thing, Morgan is back in true form and tackles the most trying time of his life with grace, strength and the jaw-droppingly hilarious point of view fans have grown to love."

The special will be available to watch on the streaming service on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

Along with that Morgan is also a part of a television series being spearheaded by Jordan Peele.

TBS has ordered a 10 episode comedy series created by Peele and John Carcieri (Vice Principals), which will feature Morgan in its starring role.

The currently untitled series follows Morgan's character, also named Tracy, who returns home after 15 years in prison, and is introduced to a new set of problems upon being released. For one, the Brooklyn neighborhood he grew up in has been gentrified and two, he is the father of twin sons he never knew existed.

In addition, his former girlfriend is married to a nice, successful white man who is helping raise the boys. Wanting nothing more than to connect with his kids, but having neither the money to support them nor himself, Tracy falls back on the skills he learned in prison to make ends meet while treading on unfamiliar territory, the official series description reads.

"Tracy and Jordan are two of today’s most sought after and authentically funny comedians, and this show captures all the hilarity you would expect from this brilliant duo," Brett Weitz, executive vice president of programming for TBS, said in a statement. "TBS is becoming a home for the most creative and diverse comedy creators in the business, and Tracy and Jordan are a perfect fit for this network."
