Michael Jackson Accuser Calls it "Unfortunate" That MTV Won't Remove MJ's Name Off of Video Vanguard Award
MTV has not responded to Wade Robson's comments.
On Monday, August 12th, it was announced that Missy Elliot will be the recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at the 2019 MTV VMAs. A complicated new wrinkle about the award is having the name Michael Jackson attached to it, just months after the devastating Leaving Neverland documentary premiered.
(MTV has been handing out the award since 1984; in 1991 — before the first child molestation charges — it was named after Michael Jackson.)

One of the accusers who spoke in the movie, Wade Robson, was asked by The Wrap about Jackson's name still being on the award. Robinson told the publication:
I don’t personally need MTV to do one thing or the other, but as child abuse survivors all over the world watch to see whether society will support them or not if they have the courage to come forward, in that regard, it’s an unfortunate choice,

The other accuser in the movie, James Safechuck, has not talked about the award name. MTV did not respond to Wade's comments.
