The Iconic 'Cowboy Bebop' Opening Theme is Back in Netflix's Live-Action Reboot

Yoko Kanno's jazz-anchored Cowboy Bebop theme makes a return in the newly-released opening credits scene for Netflix's upcoming reboot.

Cowboy Bebop fans will soon have to reacquaint themselves with the planet-jumping team of bounty hunters in Netflix's live-action reboot of the classic anime series. But at least one aspect of the original show is still in place.

Over the weekend, the streaming giant released the full opening credits scene for their highly-anticipated adaptation of the series, which was anchored by a familiar, yet unexpected, star. Namely, that of  "Tank!," Yoko Kanno's iconic jazz-laced theme song for the show, which has thankfully proven to be too integral to replace in any iteration of the series. "I didn’t think the show should go forward without her involvement," said Cowboy Bebop star, John Cho, in an interview last month.

The opening sequence offers our best look yet at the incoming adaptation of Shinichirō Watanabe's anime, previewing the whole main cast in action (including John Cho as Spike Spiegel, Mustafa Shakir as Jet Black, and Daniella Pineda as Faye Valentine,) as well as a few supporting characters from the series. Though Cho has claimed the series will not be a strict adaptation of the original, the opening credits are a spot-on half-animated homage to Watanabe's title sequence with "Tank!" scoring flashy panels with plenty of guns, explosions, and intergalactic aircrafts. It's also a placeholder for an official trailer, which shouldn't be too far down the line now, as the show is set to debut on November 19th (which means there's still plenty of time to run back through the stellar 27-episode run of the original animated series on Hulu.)

Watch the opening credits for Netflix's live-action Cowboy Bebop adaptation below. Hold tight for the show's premiere this fall.
