Watch Eddie Murphy Pay Tribute to Little Richard with Debut of Outrageous New Character 'Murray 'Murray'
"I didn't kill Berry Gordy's cat. I had Berry Gordy's cat killed."
Eddie Murphy unveiled a new character in a sketch that may have already earned its own film deal.
As the surprise headliner of NBC's Feeding America Comedy Festival on Sunday, Murphy capped the star-studded fundraising event (hosted by Billy Crystal, Tiffany Haddish, and Kenan Thompson,) with a trailer for a film titled Soul Soul Soul: The Murray Murray Story, centering on the extraordinary life of a fake-but-all-too-real soul legend with uncommon confidence and impossible credentials ("I coined the phrase 'I have a dream,' before Martin Luther King. That was actually going to be the name of my album.")

The sketch, which paid tribute to the late Little Richard, teased a once rumored concept for a Netflix mockumentary that was never developed. Last year, Murphy delivered on his arrangement with the steamer, starring in the critically-acclaimed comedy, Dolemite is My Name. He also announced a return to stand-up in a forthcoming special, his first in more than 30 years. A date for the special has yet to be revealed.
