Spike Lee to Direct 'Prince of Cats' — a Hip-Hop Reimagination of 'Romeo & Juliet'
News on the next Spike Joint.
Spike Lee has found his next project.
The legendary filmmaker — who is currently in postproduction on another film, Da 5 Bloods — will direct a film adaptation of a graphic novel called Prince of Cats. The book, which was written and illustrated by Ron Wimberly, is a hip-hop themed reimagination of William Shakespeare's Romeo & Juliet that takes place in the 1980s.

The script was written by Selwyn Seyfu Hinds, who was editor in chief of The Source magazine in the mid-'90s. He has long since transitioned to comic book and TV work. (He wrote an episode of Jordan Peele’s The Twilight Zone.)
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Lee is going to rework portions of Hinds' script, alongside Wimberly.
