Will Smith's 'Fresh Prince' Reunion Special Set for Early Release
The highly-anticipated cast reunion gets bumped up a day for good measure.
Less than a week after it was announced, the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special appears to be arriving even sooner than we'd initially anticipated.
According to the show's star, Will Smith, the special just got bumped up a night. In a post on Instagram (see below,) Smith revealed the special will be available to stream on HBO Max at 8pm EST this evening instead of tomorrow's original drop date. "Because I know y’all have waited long enough, I told @hbomax to give the people what they want and drop the #FreshPrinceReunion early!," Smith wrote in the post, sharing another brief teaser for the special. The reunion was previewed in an emotional trailer posted by the actor late last week. It featured appearances from the full living cast (yes, even Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Viv,) and a glimpse at a tearful tribute to the late James Avery, who portrayed Uncle Phil on the show.
And while the reunion seems poised to be an emotional ride for the actors and viewers alike, there's actually quite a bit of Fresh Prince still ahead. After going viral with a dramatic fan-made reimagining of the show, Morgan Cooper is set to direct his darker vision of a modern Fresh Prince for Peacock, who picked up the series for two seasons. Cooper will also write the script with Smith and Quincy Jones serving as executive producers on the project. However, a release date has yet to be announced. Keep your ear to the ground for updates on that in the months ahead.
See Will Smith's announcement below and tune into HBO Max at 8pm EST tonight for the premiere of the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reunion special.
