'Yasuke' Is Going To Have A Bunch Of Epic, Bloody Fights Judging By New Trailer
Yasuke is coming to Netflix on April 29.
The main trailer for Netflix's soon-to-be released anime series Yasuke has dropped and, judging by the trailer, it's going to have some epic, bloody fights throughout.
At two-and-a-half minutes long, the trailer offers the most thorough glimpse of what's to come in the series, as Yasuke's past life as a samurai comes back to the forefront as he tries to protect a little girl with mysterious powers. A synopsis of the show is as follows:
In a war-torn feudal Japan filled with mechs and magic, the greatest ronin never known, Yasuke, struggles to maintain a peaceful existence after a past life of violence. But when a local village becomes the center of social upheaval between warring daimyo, Yasuke must take up his sword and transport a mysterious child who is the target of dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords.
In the trailer, we see those dark forces and bloodthirsty warlords in action, with Yasuke not just going up against average soldiers but magic-using warriors and giant robots. In other words, Yasuke will definitely have a handful of challenging fights ahead of him throughout the show's six episodes.
The upcoming series is based off the real-life figure of the same name, who was reputedly the first black samurai to serve a warlord in Japan.
“Yasuke is a fascinating, mysterious figure in Japanese history that’s drawn a growing interest in today’s media over the decades,” LeSean Thomas, the creator, executive producer, and director of the series, said in a previous press release. “I first learned of Yasuke’s role in Japanese history over a decade or so. The children’s book, Kuro-suke by Kurusu Yoshio, featured images that piqued my curiosity. To eventually learn that he wasn’t just a fictional character, but a real person, was exciting material for an adventure story.”
Flying Lotus serves as an executive producer alongside Thomas, as well as the show’s music producer.
