Denzel Washington Apologizes For Revealing His Involvement in ‘Black Panther 3’

A third Black Panther film has yet to be officially announced by Marvel Studios.

Denzel Washington feels pretty bad for letting it slip that he’s involved in Black Panther 3 (and, by extension, revealing that a Black Panther 3 is in the works).

Last month, while giving an answer on what the future of his career holds that was interpreted as him retiring from acting — which he clarified shortly after, saying that he only intends on accepting roles that are “at a level of interest to me” — Washington shared that one of his upcoming roles would be in a third Black Panther film.

“I played Othello at 22, I’m now going to play it at 70,” he said during an appearance on Australia’s Today talk show. “After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.”

Now, he is not only remaining tight-lipped on his involvement, but he has since apologized to Black Panther director Ryan Coogler for the slip-up.

Referring to Coogler as a “genius” during an appearance on Variety's Awards Circuit podcast, Washington said, “I called him and apologized for talking about the movie, and right there sitting with him was his beautiful wife. He’s still Ryan, humble and full of ideas. Whatever he writes, I’ll read.”

Marvel Studios has yet to officially announce Black Panther 3. The second one was released back in 2022.

Currently, Washington can be seen in Gladiator 2. He will also be reuniting with director Spike Lee on a film titled Highest 2 Lowest, which will also star A$AP Rocky and Ice Spice.
