8Ball & MJG Vs. UGK Will Be the Next 'VERZUZ'

On Thursday, southern rap duos 8Ball & MJG and UGK will go head-to-head during VERZUZ, airing live from Atlanta.

The long-awaited VERZUZ between legendary southern rap duos 8Ball & MJG and UGK is finally happening. On Tuesday, the webcast series announced that the battle between the two acts would be held live from Atlanta on Thursday, May 26th.

Last October, UGK member Bun B stopped by podcast B High ATL and explained that Diddy once wanted to sign 8Ball & MJG and UGK to his Bad Boy South label.

“Puff had this big party in Houston, and we went to the party. We went to Puff’s section… We sat down, Puff said, ‘With all due respect B, I need to talk to the wife [Angela Walls] because I know the wife is the boss,’” Bun B said. “He told her he wanted to sign UGK, he says, ‘I’m gonna give your husband this much money, I’m gonna give his brother this much money.’”

Bun B and Walls then discussed the Bad Boy South offer, to which Bun B declined.

“[She was] like, ‘So when we going to New York?’ And I’m like, ‘We’re not,’” he said. “That was a very contentious point, because she didn’t understand why I would turn down the amount of money they were offering. I said, ‘We didn’t come this far to sell this. We got to ride this out.’”

Bun B also teased a VERZUZ battle between UGK and 8Ball & MJG, which will be held in two days.

“The reason VERZUZ took off in the way it did, was because it was specifically targeting our demographic,” he explained. “It wasn’t about charting artists, or who had the hot record, it was about creating a vibe. … I think UGK and 8Ball & MJG would’ve worked under those circumstances, the fans obviously still wanna see it [and] we’re ready to do it if called on, but it’s a little different now.”

Also last year, 8Ball & MJG were special guests during the December battle between Three 6 Mafia and Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, where the two assisted Three 6 Mafia with their 2005 hit "Stay Fly". This December will commemorate fifteen years since the death of late-UGK member Pimp C, who passed away five months after the release of the group's 2007 album Underground Kingz.

8Ball & MJG and UGK will face-off on Thursday, May 26th at 8 PM ET.
