On Juneteenth, Anderson .Paak released a powerful song called "Lockdown." The song features the rapper and singer reflecting on the global protests and social unrest that have been happening ever since the death of George Floyd.
Now, Anderson has returned with a remix of the song. The "Lockdown" Remix features verses from Noname, TDE's Jay Rock, and Dreamville rapper JID. Thundercat also helped out with the bassline. The remix features .Paak taking a backseat to his guests.
He still appears on the chorus but does not provide a new verse. Rather the three guest rappers get the opportunity to reflect on racism in America.
Noname, who has the middle slot, has the best verse. On the trach she raps:
"Maybe this round twoGovernment cinematic, American drive-through
Eat their apple pie in the mornin' and bury the strange fruit
Then marry the strange fruit and call it the Black love
So when he bleeds, I bleed the sacred riddle
Had no money I can make some so the cops get little
We seen 'em murder the indigenous, the passage middle
The Constitution, a life for a bag of Skittles?"
