Ari Lennox took to Twitter to address her thoughts on not winning at the live show recently.
The 2019 BET Soul Train Awards took place Sunday evening, following the star-studded live show Ari Lennox took to Twitter to express her disappointment in not winning an award. A few celebrities who won included Chris Brown, Summer Walker, and Drake.
Lennox received a nomination for Best R&B/Soul Female Artist, Album/Mixtape of the Year, and Best Collaboration Performance. Lennox lost to Lizzo's Cuz I Love You, H.E.R. and Chris Brown featuring Drake.
On social media, the singer shared her thoughts on what she thought of not winning any awards, especially the Album/Mixtape of the Year category. In one tweet she mentioned, "Shea Butter Baby will always be special." Her soulful debut studio album arrived earlier this year in May and included features by J. Cole and JID.
In later tweets that were captured by Hot New Hip Hop she wrote, "I want this sh*t way more than it wants me. I’m learning I have to stop caring. Yea I’m hurt. I’m not built for these things lmao."
She continued today by noting:
"It’s not just an award. It wasn’t any award show. It was the soul train awards. As you can see I’m big fan of soul music and huge fan of soul trains history. Being snubbed was something I always expected and was definitely prepared for just not by them."
She then went on to share:
"Everytime I wrap my mind around it I just can’t accept it. It feels like a break up. I made a soulful album. I never ran from who I am. I just expected that one platform to understand that. It takes a lot of energy to do these things and ultimately this was a hard loss for me."
