Legendary Battle Rapper Tech 9 Has Died, Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco & More React

Legendary battle rapper Tech 9, real name Akeem Mickens, has died, according to reports that started circulating early Monday Morning (March 25th.) (Tech 9 is not to be confused with independent rap legend Tech N9ne.) While not a lot of details have surfaced yet around the Philly legend, friend and fellow battle rapper Buttah From The Block revealed the news on his Facebook page:
Buttah then gave a statement to XXL confirming the news, adding it's not clear how he died:
Sadly it's true. We lost a Philadelphia and battle rap legend and pioneer. Unfortunately we haven't fully figured the cause of death. We are praying that it was natural causes. He had no signs of harm done to his body.
For more than a decade,Tech 9 was one of the most respected and revered battle rappers in participating in the sport. Known for his unorthodox delivery and comedic bars, he's had legendary battles with the likes of Arsenal,DNA, Midwest Miles, and more. Tech 9 would leave his mark in the numerous leagues he participated in, fromLionz Den to Street Arena to Ultimate Rap League.
Later on in his career, he would become a well-known battle rap commentator forChampion.
This was a big loss for the battle rap community. And numerous of rappers went to social media to send their condolences. This includes Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, and Denzel Curry.
