We’re back again serving up the best albums worth paying attention to this week. Over the course of the past seven days, we’ve kept our ears to the ground for you in preparation for New Music Friday.
It’s Tems’ world and we’re just living in it, the Nigerian producer/singer has finally unveiled her newest project If Orange Was A Place. It’s an EP that’s largely emotional but the production is really what sticks out, it feels like a sticky summer night. We're loving the R&B and neo-soul inclinations that are present throughout it (oh, and that Brent Faiyaz feature was perfect). VanJess has rolled out Homegrown (Deluxe); after months of teasing it, Lil Nas X serves up his debut album Montero, and Stokley reveals Sankofa.
R&B heads are in for a treat this week! Sevyn Streeter unleashes her sophomore album Drunken Wordz Sober Thoughtz and it doesn’t disappoint; newcomer Kara Marni shares her lush project State of Mine, and though it’s not specifically R&B Moor Mother returns with Black Encyclopedia of the Air.
Mozzy’s Untreated Trauma also arrives this week; Curren$y and Kino Beats drop Matching Rolexes; Injury Reserves has shared their newest album By The Time I Get to Phoenix; whiterosemoxie’s TROJAN is now out, and ZillKami’s experimental alt hip-hop project Dog Boy is also available today.
Additional releases that arrived this week include options from PA Salieu, Tion Wayne, Ray Blk, Kyle Dion, and Ann Marie.
