During the memorial, Andre 3000 spoke about how A Tribe Called Quest influenced Outkast. During that speech he also mentioned something that broke a lot of hip-hop fans' hearts; A Tribe Called Quest and Outkast were working on a collabo album:
"I’m going to say some interesting news and some disappointing news at the same time. About a year or two ago, we were talking about doing a Tribe Called Quest and Outkast album. Yeah. For whatever reason, it did not happen."
Big Boirecently stopped by Hot 97's Ebro in the Morning. During his interview, the other half of Outkast revealed more details about this project, which had a working titled of A Tribe Called Kast:
"We were talking about doing a Tribe Called Kast album, with Outkast and A Tribe Called Quest. It was real. Not [just] a conversation. Q-Tip flew to Atlanta, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, we all met at Dre's house...We got to the point of picking out beats for the album. Then, some kind of way, everybody started doing [their own] stuff, and then Phife [died]. [But] it definitely was happening."
