Brandy and Monica are Set for The Next 'Verzuz' Battle
The 90s r&b darlings are going head-to-head in the next live-stream battle.
The Verzuz series has announced its next matchup.
According to a tweet sent out Saturday night, Brandy and Monica are set square-up, marking the semi-weekly showdown's second all-woman bout following a set from Erykah Badu and Jill Scott earlier in the year that garnered one of its highest ratings and subsequent sales bumps for the participating artists. The 90s r&b darlings are set to go live from Atlanta at 8pm EST on Monday, August 31st, on both Instagram Live and Apple Music. The full set will be available via Apple following the performance.
Former collaborators on the 1998 hit, "The Boy is Mine," both singers are coming off relatively quiet streaks. Brandy released B7 in late July, featuring Chance The Rapper, Daniel Caesar, and more, as her first album since 2012. Monica, on the other hand, last chimed in with Code Red in 2015, featuring Missy Elliott, Lil Wayne, and Verzuz co-founder, Timbaland. Her recent efforts have been devoted to freeing ex-boyfriend, C-Murder, joining forces with Kim Kardashian and REFORM Alliance to bring attention to the case and hopefully have the former No Limit rapper's life sentence commuted.
And while they're bout is as evenly matched as any former contenders, it's unclear who gets to lay claim to their 1998 collab. Suppose we'll just have to tune in to find out.
See the announcement below and hold tight for the battle.
