Chance the Rapper Returns With New Video "Child of God"

In the visual for new track "Child of God" featuring Moses Sumney, Chance the Rapper is joined by Gabonese painter, Naïla Opiangah.

In "Child of God", Chance the Rapper returns to his Christian roots. On Friday, the rapper shared a visual for the Moses Sumney-featured track, joined by Gabonese painter, Naïla Opiangah. In "Child of God", Opianagah paints on a large canvas while Chance raps, and the room they occupy is the same one from his 2021 music video for "The Heat & The Tongue".

Chance met Opiangah when he visited Accra, Ghana earlier this year, and the two now share a contemporary art project, called Child of God, at Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. The project is available to view until Tuesday, March 29.

On Wednesday, Chance and Opiangah introduced Child of God during an event at the Chicago museum, per Chicago Sun-Times.

“The main message that I want people to leave with is that this 12-foot painting, this illustrious video, this song, this event at MCA — it all came together in a couple of months because we kept trying. It was a long process, but we learned to love the process,” Chance said.

The rapper also shared that he began writing new music in September, confirming that he plans to release an album later this year, inspired by the project. The album will follow his 2019 sophomore effort The Big Day.

“They all come from a space of me finally feeling empowered and me finally feeling ready to go speak on all the things that I think about,” he said. “This project does explore a lot darker themes than I have in the past couple of projects. But, it’s all still from a place of understanding that it’s all a process.”
