GZA has partnered with Vans for his own show a part of the skateboarding shoe and apparel brand's new Channel 66 project.
Titled Chessboxing with GZA, the show finds the Wu-Tang MC not only curating music, but having discussions on metaphysics and playing live chess with celebrity guests. The show debuted on Thursday (February 11).
Chessboxing with GZA is one of the many programs a part of Vans' Channel 66, a digital livestream network that will be broadcasting weekdays from New York City, Chicago, Mexico City, and Los Angeles.
"As distance and separation from others has become an unfortunate reality for everyone across the world, Vans strives to cultivate Channel 66 as a place where audiences from all walks of life can come together to find inspiration," a press release for Channel 66 reads.
Other curated shows a part of Channel 66 include: New Direction New York Hardcore show with Walter Schreifels, Afropunk’s Channel Interference, Poetry and lyricism by Young Chicago Authors, The Girl Ultra Show connecting music and fashion, and All Ages Show, which spotlights Los Angeles' rich heritage in DIY and punk.
Channel 66 will also include guests appearances and DJ sets from Vic Mensa, Duckwrth, Flea, and others.
In related news, GZA was quoted by Stacey Plaskett, a non-voting House Representative for the US Virgin Islands, during the opening day of Donald Trump's second impeachment trial.
