The musical moniker of Donald Glover, Childish Gambino has signed a new record and label deal under RCA Records, with his management company/creative agency Wolf + Rothstein forming a partnership with the company. The deal was reportedly finalized in December.
"Donald is undoubtedly one of the most talented, multi-faceted, young entertainers of this era," RCA Chairman and CEO Peter Edge said. "We are excited to join forces with him and Wolf + Rothstein to usher in the next phase of Childish Gambino's musical career."
"Being malleable is important to us, and that's what this partnership allows. Also, it was about that time," Fam Rothstein added. Glover voiced a similar sentiment reportedly saying of the label change that it is a "necessary change of pace."
New music from Glover is expected later this year, according to a report from Variety. This project may serve as the last Gambino album Glover spoke of last year.
His first three albums (Camp, Because the Internet, and Awaken, My Love!) were issued through indie label Glassnote. Now, he joins a roster that includes SZA, Khalid, Justin Timberlake, and others.
Gambino will also be performing at this year's Grammy Awards. The singer and rapper has been nominated for five awards, including Record of the Year, Best R&B Song of the Year, and Record of the Year.
