The new song is a return to form for JT and Yung Miami and comes right after the single "JT First Day Out."
“You Tried It” is the new song from Miami rappers City Girls. It’s their second single released following JT’s release from prison in October.
Yesterday evening Quality Control Music founder Kevin "Coach K" Lee took to Instagram to tease the single by posting a definition for the title of the track.
JT comes out the gate, rhyming over a bass heavy track, with a verse that makes it clear the rap game was missing her flow. "Jet black lace/Wig long and it's curly/Calling up Barbara/Bitch this Shirley/We sharing that nigga, sis, don’t be salty," she rhymes.
Then Yung Miami takes control, giving it her own spin after the energetic chorus: "I’m a rap bitch goals/I could never get chose/Bitch, he wanna be with me/Yeah/And he a rap nigga say he independent."
We wouldn’t be surprised if Yung Miami’s other verses on the song became popular Instagram captions as the year comes to a close.
Prior to this single, City Girls dropped “JT First Day Out” on October 8 featuring JT rapping about her experiences in prison over a melancholy beat. It’s now accumulated over 3 million streams on Spotify. In the single, she also touches on a rumor that she got pregnant by a correction officer while she was locked up. "Oh, and one more thing before I go/How y’all gon say a made bitch was pregnant from a C.O.?/I don’t fuck with cops or blockers, you bitches slow/Stop with all the rumors, and tell your nigga I’m home."
Period arrived in March 2018 to wide acclaim. The introduction track “Tighten Up” presented JT as a gifted rapper. Additional songs that pushed the two into the forefront of the rap conversation include the staple “Take Yo Man,” the summer-friendly "Where The Bag At," and the aggressively sex positive "F**k On U."
The duo then unveiled Girl Code, their debut studio album, in November 2018. The 13-track project featured popular tracks like "Act Up" and "Twerk" with Cardi B and "Season" featuring Lil Baby. "Act Up" went viral a bit after the album was released when fans created the #ActUpChallenge where fans danced and rapped the lyrics as the song played in the background. In April 2019, Lil Yachty admitted he wrote the entire song excluding JT’s verse.
What really set City Girls on fire was their feature on Drake’s Scorpion album on “In My Feelings” which came a few months after Period. Sadly, JT turned herself in to jail the day the single dropped. Yung Miami made an appearance in the wildly successful video that turned into another viral moment. Miami held the duo down during JT’s prison sentence by making appearances on singles with Saweetie, French Montana and other QC artists.
