In 1989, Guru connected with DJ Premier to form Gang Starr, one of the greatest rap duos of all time. Throughout the '90s, Gang Starr put out three straight classic albums: Daily Operation, Hard to Earn, and Moment of Truth. During their time together, both artists made time to do their side ventures; Primo produced numerous classics for the likes of TheNotorious B.I.G. and Nas while Guru launched his Jazzmatazz series.
The last album Gang Starr put out was The Ownerz in 2003.
Later in years Guru and DJ Premier's relationship splintered. On April 19, 2010, Guru died at the age of 48 due to cancer. The legendary rapper had just gone into cardiac arrest following surgery.
