The DMX Tribute at the 2021 BET Awards was Outstanding

BET's DMX tribute was star-studded and powerful.

DMX got the tribute a rapper like himself deserved.

Swizz Beatz, the Lox,Busta Rhymes, Method Man, Griselda, and Michael K. Williams closed out the 2021 BET awards by honoring one of the most beloved rappers in recent memory, DMX.

The performance started with Method Man doing a perfect rendition of DMX's iconic single "Get At Me Dog." That was followed by a performance from the three leads of Griselda, Westside Gunn, Conway the Machine, and Benny the Butcher. They performed "Hood Blues," a song that appears on DMX's latest album, Exodus.

That was followed by the most gripping moment of the tribute performance: actor Michael K. Williams came out and performed a passionate rendition of DMX's iconic single "Slippin'." The performance is chilling — with Williams using X-like aggression for one of his most sentimental songs.

That was followed by a performance from DMX's friends. This includes The Lox and Swizz Beatz and Busta Rhymes who performed the “Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” remix,Where the Hood At,” and “Party Up (Up in Here).” The performance was a beautiful tribute to an artist who had dozens of hits and who was vital to the success of BET. The last great moment DMX had came in 2011 — 10 years ago — when he came out and performed a number of classics with Swizz Beatz.

On April 9th, DMX was taken off life support days after suffering a heart attack the week prior. He was only 50 years old at the time of his death. DMX is survived by 15 children.
