Donald Glover released a surprise project over the weekend, which we said: "could be signaling the end of Childish Gambino as we knew him." Some 12 or so hours later, the album is no more.
Untitled and posted without any song names, features, or production credits overnight, the 12-song project was on a continuous loop via a new website, Donald Glover Presents. It featured the previously released single "Feels Like Summer," as well as new collaborations with 21 Savage and Ariana Grande. The project's full personnel remains unknown. It's unclear whether or when the project will arrive on streamers. However, it appeared to have four variant covers, panels of a larger scene of a city in flames (fitting.)
When the album was released, we said: "something's clearly afoot." We just had no idea what that 'something' was, exactly. Could this be a technical mishap or some sort of performance art from Glover? Given his history with interactive releases--see his 2013 album Because the Internet--the latter isn't too much of a stretch.
Gambino has yet to speak about the new project or its subsequent removal. His last full-length effort, Awaken, My Love! was nominated for Best Urban Contemporary Album and Album of the Year at the 60th Grammy Awards. Stay tuned for further updates regarding the latest Donald Glover project.
