A new installment in the ongoing Fela Kuti boxset series will arrive on December 15th with hand-picked selections from ol' green eyes herself, the one and only Erykah Badu.
HEAR: Questlove & Black Thought Share Their Personal Fela Kuti Playlists
The fourth edition -- following deep dives into the seemingly endless Kuti archive from Questlove, Ginger Baker and Brian Eno -- will be limited to just 3,000 copies, featuring seven personal essays from Badu, one for each album included, spotlighting her "favorite Fela piece of all-times," the politically-edged 1980 funk spiritual, "Coffin For Head of State."
Badu's set also features Yellow Fever, No Agreement, J.J.D. (Johnny Just Drop,) V.I.P., Army Arrangement, and the late-career treasure, Underground System, along with a 16”x24” poster helmed by Nigerian afropop artist Lemi Ghariokwu (designer behind 26 of the late icon's album covers,) album-by-album commentary from Afrobeat historian, Chris May, and unpublished photos of Fela in a full-color 20-page booklet.

In a statement, Badu declared "Fela Kuti is a fucking genius," suggesting the pairing of "a nice blunt.. with a nice slow burn" to her curated guide of the afrobeat pioneer's work, a follow-up to her personal playlist of Kuti's protest anthems.
