Erykah Badu, Yasiin Bey, and Talib Kweli (accompanied by longtime collaborator Hi Tek) are coming together for this year's Cincinnati Funk Fest. Taking place at the U.S. Bank Arena on April 27, the three artists will be performing alongside Lauren Eylise, Kameron Corvet, and Speed Walton.READ: Yasiin Bey Announces New Black Star Album For 2018
The concert is particularly interesting considering it seems to be Bey and Kweli's first performance together since the former announced that the two were working on another Black Star album. The two don't seem to be doing any performances together before Funk Fest, but there's plenty of time for that to change.
Ticket prices for the Cincinnati Funk Fest range from $63 for seating in the upper bowl to $124 for floor-level access. More details can be found here.
Several weeks ago Bey announced that the follow up to Black Star's first album is in the works.
"New Black Star with Madlib, Talib Kweli, Yasiin, coming soon!" Bey said during a Madlib DJ set in Denver, Colorado. "All Madlib, all day. 2018, Madlib, Black Star. Madlib Black Star."
During another Madlib DJ set in San Francisco, Bey made a surprise appearance where he told those in attendance that he had recorded the first verse for the new Black Star album.
However, Kweli recently said that Bey's announcement came prematurely.
"It looks like it might happen," Kweli said to HipHopDX during a show in Boulder, Colorado. "I found out on the internet the same way y’all did. We’ve been talking about doing an album with Madlib for years. That’s been an idea we’ve had for so long, but for him to make that announcement…I didn’t know he was going to make the announcement."
