FKA Twigs has officially rolled out her newest album Magdalene. The follow-up to her last LP, LP1 was first revealed earlier this summer.

In an interview with Zane Lowe reported by HYPEBEAST, FKA Twigs shared one of her main inspirations for the album:

"Mary Magdalene was less from the religious aspect and more just from the feminine. [I] was more looking at her as a woman and what she represented, what her archetype was. What was her true story? How was it manipulated?"

The nine-track project is deeply expressive and was reportedly compiled in a three-year period. She also shared with Lowe that the album was created during a period of self isolation after her public breakup in 2017. Magdalene comes with the previously released singles "Cellphone," "Home With You," and "Sad Day." Complex reports production on the album is credited to Benny Blanco, Jack Antonoff, Skrillex, Soundwave, Kenny Beats, and more.

In conversation with with i-D magazine, she shared additional thoughts on the album:

"The record is about every lover that I’ve ever had, and every lover that I’m going to have. Just when you think it’s really fragile and about to fall apart, there’s an absolute defiance and strength in a way that my work’s never had before. It’s really fragile."

FKA Twigs is currently embarking on her North American Magdalene tour. The tour will wrap on December 3 in Amsterdam. Head to her official website for more information on tickets.
