The burgeoning demand for grime is ringing loud and clear. Spotify has now designated a category for the U.K. genre’s content amidst the genre’s rising popularity and mainstream-adjacent status.

Since its conception in 2002, the genre has slowly and steadily gained traction globally, having permeated The U.K. for over a decade, but reaching the United States within the last few years. Major releases from new heavyweights like Skepta, Stormzy, and Wiley have helped bring grim push even closer to the mainstream.
Spotify’s senior editor Austin Darbo took to Twitter to talk about his role in solidifying the genre’s place on the popular platform.

Spotify now includes links to three major playlists for the genre: Grime Shutdown, Grime Classics, and Grime Instrumentals.
