Gunna has officially dropped his sophomore LP WUNNA. The release is a follow-up to his 2019 debut studio album Drip or Drown 2.
Guest features on the album include Young Thug, Travis Scott, Lil Baby, Roddy Ricch and Nechie. The lead single off WUNNA is “Skybox” which arrived in early March before social distancing and quarantine became the norm due to COVID-19.
The overall vibe of WUNNA is easygoing and smooth. Though the release is a bit long, there are a few songs that standout. Those are “Met Gala,” “Nasty Girl/On Camera,” “Cooler Than A Bitch” with Roddy Rich and “Top Floor” featuring Travis Scott.
In a recent interview with The Breakfast Club, Gunna shared that Young Thug has played a part in his growth as an artist. The tracks Thug appears on “Dollaz On My Head” and “Far” are necessary listens on the album. The former has a melodic beat paired with heavy drums, while the latter is a fitting outro track.
He also offered his thoughts on the COVID-19 pandemic and admitted he lost an estimated $7 million due to the halt on tours. “I just wanna live life to the fullest because you never know what can happen . . . Nobody planned for this,” Gunna said. “We don't know what's gonna happen the next day. We don’t know what's ahead of us. It just made me think about, like, just cherish family and cherish your life and cherish your blessings.”
Despite WUNNA arriving amid the weird time we’re living through right now, it still manages to make a splash. Gunna shines on the majority of the tracks and makes it clear why his cult fanbase stays engaged no matter what.
