Illa J links up with Nightmares on Wax
At the top of the year, veteran DJ and producer Nightmares on Wax released his eighth studio album, Shape the Future. One of the standout tracks off that album is "Deep Shadows," a straight bop featuring London singer Sadie Walker.
The great Illa J — the younger brother of J Dilla — loved the track so much that he decided to remix the track.

Today we're premiering the Illa J remix of "Deep Shadows." Illa reached out to us and explained why he wanted to rap on the track.
Illa J told us:
When I first heard the original, I loved the vibe of it. So I didn't wanna take away from it, but at the same time I wanted to give it a new feel. I actually sat on the record for about a week before I remixed it. And honestly when it happened it all came at once. I lined it up in the grid before I went to sleep and for whatever reason it just wasn't working, I think I was just sleepy. And then I woke up the next morning and it all happened so fast. I kinda beatboxed to it, what I heard in my head, and everything else just pieced together one by one. I honestly love how it turned out, the vibe fits her vocals perfectly.
