J. Cole Connects with BTS Member J-Hope on New Single "On the Street"
J. Cole has dropped a new single with BTS member J-Hope, titled "On the Street," just days after the Dreamville Festival lineup was announced.
Hip-hop meets K-Pop on new J-Hope and J. Cole collaboration "On the Street." Prior to J-Hope undergoing the South Korean military enlistment process, the 29-year-old BTS member dropped "On the Street" one year after meeting the Dreamville Records co-founder at Lollapalooza last summer.
"J. Cole is my idol and we met there," J-Hope told Variety. "Since then, I couldn’t stop thinking about how great it would be if we could make music together. So I reached out to him. I already had a plan in mind to release music around this time, and I began working on it in early November. As much as it took me a while to finish the song, I cherish it so much and it means a lot to me."
Hope's label, BigHit, previously confirmed "On the Street" prior to its release.
“J-Hope wrote the track to share his candid feelings toward his fans," the label wrote last month. "The title ‘on the street’ refers to J-Hope’s roots—street dance—from which his dream to become an artist began, and the path the artist and fans will continue to walk together.”
The song also ties in with the Creed III soundtrack, where Cole appears on fourth track, "Adonis Interlude (The Montage)." Earlier this week, the Dreamville Festival lineup was announced, with Cole, Drake and Usher as headliners, and Lil Durk, GloRilla, Summer Walker, SiR, Ari Lennox, J.I.D. and more scheduled as additional performers.
