At an intimate gathering in Los Angeles, Smollett took the opportunity to not only perform his single "Hurt People," but also clarify some of the reporting on the details of his attack. Smollett claims that he sustained bruised ribs, not cracked or broken, as it was previously reported, states that doctors in both NYC and LA cleared him to perform ahead of his appearance, and caps with the corrective declaration "I fought the fuck back."

In an official statement from earlier in the week, Smollett revealed that he was working with investigators to identify persons of interest in the attack, but noted "these types of cowardly attacks are happening to my sisters, brothers and non-gender conforming siblings daily," adding that "I am not and should not be looked upon as an isolated incident."
