Kendrick Lamar & Taylour Paige Release NSFW "We Cry Together" Video

On Thursday, Kendrick Lamar surprised fans with his long-awaited short film "We Cry Together," co-starring actress Taylour Paige.

Kendrick Lamar has revealed his short film for "We Cry Together" from his latest album Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers. Previously screened six times at the Laemmle Royal Theater in West Los Angeles in early June, the 6-minute visual features Lamar and actress Taylour Paige.

Directed by Jake Schreier, Dave Free, Adam Newport-Berra and Lamar, the short film was captured in one take with live vocals in March 2020. This makes the performances from the visual distinct from the audio on the recorded version of "We Cry Together." Since its brief run of theater screenings earlier this summer, "We Cry Together" qualifies for Oscars consideration in the Best Live Action Short Film category, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Upon the release of Mr. Morale & the Big Steppers, Paige tweeted quotables from lead single "N95," which is also the first music video from Lamar's newest album.

Earlier this month, producer Sounwave discussed the collaborative process behind "We Cry Together" in an interview with GQ.

“I just remember one day, it was probably 2019, where he just had this scratch idea of a couple arguing,” the producer said. “He didn’t have all the words down—he just had the male’s verse and then mumbles of the lady’s part.

“I come in one day and he had pitched his voice up to sound like a girl and he was literally arguing with himself. I remember my mouth just dropped—‘Do we drop it like this with just your voice?’ He was like, ‘Nah, we’ve gotta find someone who can actually nail this moment.’”

He added, “I remember Dave Free bringing the idea of [Taylour] Paige. We all lit up. ‘Let’s give it a shot!’ She came in, instantly added her two cents to it, added everything you hear now. She almost one-taked it! That was one of the songs that we knew was staying, for sure.”
