Killer Mike has recruited André 3000,Lil Wayne, Dave Chappelle, 6lack and more on his forthcoming solo album, Michael. During SXSW in Austin, Texas last week, the Atlanta emcee, real name Michael Santiago Render, held a private listening session for the project inside a cathedral.
One guest in attendance was Milwaukee radio host and producer, DJ Kenny Perez, who "told fans to RUN and embrace it when it drops.” “The project is journey through his life and he doesn’t hold back," Perez added about Michael. "Collabs with Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, Dave Chapelle [sic] and more.”
Along with the listening event, Mike brought select songs from Michael to a special SXSW showcase for music publication SPIN, performing tracks "Shed Tears" and "High + Holy." The Run the Jewels member closed his set with throwback Southern hits, including Outkast's "The Whole World" and Bone Crusher's "Neva Scared."
“My life truly is a testimony for what happens when you show up and keep believing something is calling you to do better for yourself,” Mike said during the show. “I don’t know what’s after this life, but I will treasure this night for the rest of my life.”
Last year, Mike released two potential singles that may appear on Michael, "RUN" featuring Chappelle and Young Thug, and "TALK'N THAT SHIT!" which was produced by DJ Paul of Three 6 Mafia. Michael follows Mike's fifth studio album, R.A.P. Music, which released in 2012.
