Madlib Is Working On A Posthumous Mac Miller Project

Alongside Talib Kweli on Sway in the Morning, Madlib revealed that he's working on a second Mac Miller posthumous album.

A second posthumous Mac Miller album is in the works. While recently visiting Sway in the Morning with Talib Kweli to promote their new album Liberation 2, producer and rapper Madlib revealed that he's making finishing touches on a Miller project.

"Right now I'm finishing the Mac Miller album, Planet Asia album, Erykah Badu album, different stuff," Madlib teased about his forthcoming production.

When Sway asked if Miller's project would be MacLib, an EP that the duo didn't get to finish, the 49-year-old confirmed, sharing that the late rapper's estate agreed to the project.

Miller, who died on September 7, 2018 from a drug overdose, is featured on Liberation 2 track "Right to Love Us." "Me and Mac Miller rhymed to the same Madlib beat at the same time in different places," Kweli added. "And when we found that out, we we're like, 'Now it's a song together.'"

MacLib was first teased in 2019 by producer Thelonious Martin in a DJBooth interview. One month prior to his death, the 26-year-old rapper released fifth album, Swimming, which would go on to be nominated for Best Rap Album at the 2019 Grammy Awards. In 2020, a first posthumous album for Miller was released titled Circles, which debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200. The following year, music journalist and author Donna-Claire Chesman released a biography dedicated to Miller, titled The Book of Mac: Remembering Mac Miller, which received acceptance and praise from the rapper's estate.
