Missy Elliott To Receive Essence 2018 “Black Women In Music” Honor

The hip-hop legend’s iconic legacy will be celebrated at Essence’s pre-Grammy event.
Missy Elliottwill kick off the new year getting her just dues from the industry she’s contributed so much history to. The legendary rapper and producer is set to accept a special honor at Essence’s 2018 pre-Grammy celebration.

Essence first began rewarding this honor in 2010 in recognition of the achievements and accomplishments of artists during Grammy week. Now, it’s the latest accolade following missy’s nearly two-decade long, game-changing career.
The artistry of Missy Elliott cuts across generations—underscored by her vast creative accomplishments and contributions to the culture,” Essence Editor-in-Chief Vanessa De Luca said in a statement. “So prolific is her work, she is an inspiration to women all over the world. Missy’s energetic presence is truly magnetic and we can’t wait to celebrate her as one of the artistic masterminds of our time.”

The ceremony is set to take place Jan. 25 at the Highline Ballroom in New York City, three days before the 60th annual Grammys to be held at Madison Square Garden.
