"My Ego Got The Best of Me": Noname Regrets Responding to J. Cole on "Song 33"

"I tried to use it as a moment to draw attention back to the issues I care about but I didn’t have to respond."

After a brief round of not-so-friendly fire, Noname has issued an apology for clapping back at J. Cole on her cutting new track, "Song 33."

Released on Friday, the stout Madlib-produced song is dense and targeted in its retort to the Dreamville rapper's "Snow On Tha Bluff," which arrived earlier in the week seemingly unprovoked. This morning, the rapped expressed her regret over releasing the track in a statement issued on Twitter. "i am not proud of myself for responding with song 33," Noname writes, adding “i tried to use it as a moment to draw attention back to the issues i care about but i didn’t have to respond. my ego got the best of me. i apologize for any further distraction this caused." In a subsequent tweet, Noname thanked listeners for relating to her words and sentiment, pledging to leave the song up and donate her portion of proceeds to mutual aid funds.
