This week is stacked with quite a few solid new albums. One being the highly anticipated major label debut from Brooklyn rapper Navy Blue. On Friday, he released his exhilarating and excellently produced Ways Of Knowing.
After nearly five years, 6LACK returns with his vulnerable album Since I Have A Lover featuring Wale, Don Toliver, Ty Dolla $ign and more. Yaya Bey unleashes Exodus the North Star, a funky neo-soul album with collaborations from Nativesun, Jay Daniel, and Exaktly. We’re also spotlighting NanaBcool who recently released his latest R&B album Good Luck, Vol. 1.
JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown have also released their collaborative album Scaring The Hoes. Hit-Boy drops his latest self-produced solo offering Surf Or Drown. And 03 Greedo is back with Halfway There.
Navy Blue shines on his major label debut produced by Budgie. This release is injected with his clear expressions and his ability to conjure his innermost feelings on love, his omnipresent thoughts, his creative journey and so much more.
Standout Tracks: “The Medium,” “To Fall In Love Ft. Budgie”
6LACK isn’t afraid to take off his many masks on his third album Since I Have A Lover. The album is also emotional, and there are quite a few moments where he digs into the most significant moments in a relationship like on “Fatal Attraction.”
Standout Tracks: “cold feet,” “Talkback”
Yaya Bey returns with another strong EP. The way she intertwines R&B with neo-soul is notable, and the entirety of this release flows effortlessly. On Exodus the North Star there are also poignant moments where she fuses reggae and bouncy trap-esque beats with her mezzo-soprano voice.
Standout Tracks: “exodus the north star,” “on the pisces moon”
JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown link up over some trippy beats. What ensues is an explosive and vibrant rap release that features hits of alt and pop.
Standout Tracks: “Steppa Pig,” “SCARING THE HOES”
Hit-Boy focuses on himself on his newest solo album. The album includes some heat from Nas, Dom Kennedy, The Alchemist, and also Curren$y.
Standout Tracks: “The Tide ft. Nas,” “Slipping Into Darkness ft. The Alchemist”
NanaBcool dropped Good Luck, Vol. 1 not too long ago, and it’s worth the listen. The R&B singer breathes much-needed life into the genre with his soothing, laidback voice. Production is also solid throughout this release.
Standout Tracks: “Lifeline,” “Greenlight Ft. Don Knock & Irate Genius”
Over 33 tracks, 03 Greedo lets his music do the talking for him – this tape is packed with infectious production and a hunger that’s hard to deny. This drop is his latest since his release on parole two months ago.
Standout Tracks: “Buss Me A Script Ft. Maxo Kream”
