7 New Albums You Should Be Listening To (Week March 31)
New Albums include drops from Chloë and Larry June & The Alchemist.
There’s a lot of good new music that arrived today. In the case that you’re having an issue parsing through all of it, we’ve got you covered. In this week’s run-down, Larry June and The Alchemist’s The Great Escape is at the top of our standouts. The album offers a significant moment for the two talents, especially The Alchemist.
Another rap release we are standing behind this week is Juicy J’s Mental Trillness which features the late Gangsta Boo, Finesse2Tymes, and more. Nearly two years after Tyler, The Creator released Call Me If You Get Lost, he returns with Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale. DJ Drama returns with It’s Really Like That. His release features Jeezy, Nipsey Hussle, Tyler, The Creator, Lil Wayne, Westside Gunn, A Boogie Wit da Hoodie, and more.
Pink Siifu and Ahwlee release the neo-soul project Leather Blvd. Luh Tyler drops off his debut release My Vision.
Chloë is holding it down for R&B today with her first solo album In Pieces.
Larry June x The Alchemist – The Great Escape
Larry June and The Alchemist are as real and relevant as ever on their latest album. There’s an air of distinction that begins with the first track and stays up until the end of the project. Read Zo's cover story "The Lavish Comforts Larry June & The Alchemist."
Standout Tracks: “Palisades, CA Ft. Big Sean,” “Porsches In Spanish”
Tyler, The Creator – Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale
Some loosies that were left off of Tyler, The Creator’s critically acclaimed release Call Me If You Get Lost were added to his new deluxe album. The John Legend “Heaven Only Knows” sample on “Heaven To Me” is delightful.
Standout Tracks: “Dogtooth,” “Heaven To Me”
Juicy J – Mental Trillness
Juicy J unleashes a mixtape that poignantly dissects mental health. He also pays homage to Gangsta Boo on two tracks.
Standout Tracks: “Follow Home Robbers Ft. Gangsta Boo,” “No Rapper Ft. Aleza, Slimeroni, & K Carbon”
DJ Drama – It’s Really Like That
DJ Drama emerges with yet another star-studded new album. The late Nipsey Hussle delivers a memorable series of lines on “Raised Different.”
Standout Tracks: “Raised Different Ft. Nipsey Hussle, Blxst & Jeezy,” “I Ain’t Gon Hold Ya Ft. Jeezy”
Chloë – In Pieces
Chloë’s debut album has some strong vocal moments – there are also some significant moments where she allows herself to be vulnerable, like in the snippet “Heart On My Sleeve.” She’s absolutely dynamic on “Make It Look Easy.”
Standout Tracks: “Heart On My Sleeve,” “Make It Look Easy”
Luh Tyler – My Vision
If you haven’t caught on to 17-year-old Tallahassee rapper Luh Tyler, now is the time. He absolutely devours trap beats on My Vision, one of the hardest new albums of the week.
Standout Tracks: “Poppin Shit,” “Fat Racks Pt. 2”
B. Cool-Aid (Pink Siifu, Ahwlee) – Leather Blvd.
Pink Siifu and Ahwlee, aka B. Cool-Aid, connect for the smooth and relaxing Leather Blvd. It’s an innovative album that is nearly flawless. It is definitely one of the new albums you need to hear this week.
Standout Tracks: “Cnt Go Back ( Tell Me ) Ft. Liv.e & Butcher Brown,” “soundgood Ft. Liv.e & Jimetta Rose”
