N.O.R.E. Explains Why People Kept on Defacing the Prodigy Mural
A couple of days after the legendary Mobb Deep member Prodigy died, two artists, Jeff Henriquez and Eli Lazare, painted a mural dedicated to the rapper on 13th Street and 40th Avenue, right across the street from Queensbridge, the housing projects he helped put on the map.
That night someone poured white paint all over the mural. A couple of days later, Henriquez and Lazare came back and fixed it. The painting got defaced again, this time with red paint.

It was clear that at this point there were was someone who wasn't going to let this mural be, so the two artists covered it up.
But the question remains...who did it?

N.O.R.E. recently appeared on the Breakfast Club to talk about the upcoming season of his popular podcast Drink Champs. He was asked about the mural, and N.O.R.E, who was from LeFrak City but who spent a lot of time in the Bridge because of his longtime partner Capone, explained that it was neighborhood politics.
“I’m not qualified to speak on that...but it came from a big homie that’s in jail that don’t have nothing. I know you always big up Prodigy’s book, but Prodigy’s book hurt a lot of people. Dead, in jail, alive, and the guy that’s up north, he’s a respectable guy. Everybody respects him. He sent the word and it’s official.”
For obvious reasons, N.O.R.E. didn't want to say the person's name. But if you read the book, My Infamous Life, and watch a couple of old clips from hood DVDs, you can probably pick up on who N.O.R.E. is talking about.
The Prodigy parts come up around the 19:00-minute mark. But listen to the whole thing, it's excellent. They cover a number of things from P to Pharrell to Kendrick Lamar.
