Report: R. Kelly's Streams on Spotify Have Gone Up Since the Airing of 'Surviving R. Kelly'

Listeners aren't leaving R. Kelly yet.

Common sense would tell you that R. Kelly is having a bad week. Well, it might not be as bad as expected. On Thursday (January3rd) Lifetime aired the first two episodes of its six-partdocuseries SurvivingR. Kelly. The documentaryfeatures interviews with over 50 people, many women who detail R. Kellysalleged long history of sexual, physical, and mental abuse.

The reactionon social media has been about85 percent negative. However, that negative attention seems to be leading to more streams. According to The Blast, who talked to a representativefor Spotify, streams for Kelly's music have increased by 16% since last night.

If you remember, Spotify had banned R. Kelly from its playlists after the #MuteRKelly campaignstarted to take off. The company quickly backed down after artists, includingKendrick Lamar, responded negativelyto the idea of banning artists.
