Rapper Behind FN Meka Breaks His Silence On Factory New & Social Media Backlash

Kyle The Hooligan, the voice behind AI rapper FN Meka has opened up about the character, which was dropped from Capitol Records.

FN Meka controversy has spiraled since the AI character was dropped from Capitol Records less than a week after he was signed. On Wednesday (August 24), Atlanta-based rapper Kyle The Hooligan revealed on Instagram that he was the voice actor for "the world's first AI rapper," claiming that Factory New stole his intellectual property before ghosting him.

"They came to me with this A.I. s*** and was like would I want to be the voice of it, and I thought it was going to be some collaboration," Kyle said in the clip. "They promised me equity in the company, percentages, all this stuff, so I’m thinking, ‘OK, this about to be some collab, something different for me, so I can do my music and do some A.I. stuff with this FN Meka character."

“So everything going good. Next thing I know, n***** just ghosted me. Use my voice, use my sound, use the culture and literally just left me high and dry," he continued. "I ain’t get a dime off of nothing, and they got record deals, all this stuff. I wasn’t involved in no meetings or none of that, which is f****** up. So, I’m glad they a** got canceled ‘cause that’s karma for they a** ‘cause God don’t play with me. I’m gonna tell you that right now.”

Kyle even went as far as proving that Meka's song "Moonwalkin" was originally his.

With 10 million followers, Meka became the most popular virtual influencer on TikTok through his songs including “Speed Demon” and “Internet.” Last week, his single "Florida Water" featuring Gunna and Clix was released.

On Tuesday, music activist group Industry Blackout demanded an apology from Capitol Records for the "robot rapper" being a "direct insult to the Black community and our culture."

Hours later, Capitol released a statement saying that Meka had been dropped from their roster.

“CMG has severed ties with the FN Meka project, effective immediately. We offer our deepest apologies to the Black community for our insensitivity in signing this project without asking enough questions about equity and the creative process behind it," the statement read. “We thank those who have reached out to us with constructive feedback in the past couple of days—your input was invaluable as we came to the decision to end our association with the project.”
