ICE agents report “His whole public persona is false. He actually came to the U.S. from the U.K. as a teen and overstayed his visa.”
Atlanta rapper 21 Savage was arrested this morning by ICE in Atlanta. According to reports from WSB-TV and CNN's Nick Valencia, the rapper was picked up in "a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday." WSB reporter, Mark Winne, shared a statement from an ICE agent, claiming the rapper to be unlawfully present as a UK citizen.Valencia expands, noting 21 (born Shayaa Bin Abraham-Joseph) entered the United States legally in 2005 at the age of 13, but "subsequently failed to depart under the terms of his nonimmigrant visa and he became unlawfully present in the U.S. when his visa expired in July 2006."

While the story is still developing, it appears some local heavyweights were on the rapper's trail, and a recent tweet from his manager seems to confirm the incomprehensible reality that 21 Savage may have learned his accent from Youtube videos (see both below.) But hey, maybe a shared exile is the key to the 21 x DOOM tape we never knew we needed? Check back for updates on both ends in the hours ahead.
