Throughout the month of October, Robert Glasper has been treating crowds at NYC's Blue Note to star-studded revues of his catalog.
And while it's been one of the city's hottest tickets, Boiler Room happened to be in attendance for last night's performance, capturing an hour-long J Dilla tribute, live and direct from the legendary NYC venue. With an opening blessing from Ma Dukes, the Glasper-led five-piece runs through solo Dilla cuts and Slum Village classics with T3, the original line-up's lone survivor, performing the late producer's lines (and his own, of course) throughout the night.
A portion of the proceeds from this week's performances (continuing Saturday and Sunday with two sets per night,) will be donated to Save The Music Foundation's J Dilla Music Tech Grant. Developed in partnership with Pharrell and Arizona State University, the recently-established initiative offers public high school students access to music education with non-traditional instruments and production programs.
