RZA & DJ Scratch Drop the Video For 'Saturday Afternoon Kung-Fu Theater '
Last June, RZA announced new album Saturday Afternoon Kung-Fu Theater with DJ Scratch. A visual entitled after the album has arrived.
Bong bong. RZA goes into full Bobby Digital mode in a new music video for "Saturday Afternoon Kung-Fu Theater" aptly named after his forthcoming collaborative album with DJ Scratch. Prior to reverting to the Saturday Afternoon Kung-Fu Theater title, the album was briefly changed to Bobby Digital Vs. RZA.
The legendary Wu-Tang Clan de facto leader spoke with HipHopDX last June about the album's bass-thumping quality. At the time, he originally planned to release Saturday Afternoon Kung-Fu Theater last summer on August 6th.
“It sounds remarkable, and I actually took advantage of the opportunity and played two of my own new songs in a demo form,” he said. “So I played a song called ‘Pugilism’ that DJ Scratch produced for me and a new song 'Saturday Afternoon Kung Fu Theater,' RZA said. “Me and DJ Scratch got the album done. There was a little misprint in the press a couple of weeks ago about Digital Potion. No, the new album that I’m putting out with DJ Scratch is called Saturday Afternoon Kung-Fu Theater.”
In a 2021 press statement, RZA spoke about joining forces with Scratch:
“Giving Scratch the reins as a producer and me taking the reins as an MC, that’s what frees me up creatively and lets me play more with lyrical gags and lyrical flows because I don’t have to be focused on everything."
In the meantime, RZA is focused on a $2 million lawsuit towards bootleggers using the Wu Tang Clan's logo on unauthorized merchandise. Halt unauthorized stores from selling imitation merchandise, he's also asking e-commerce websites like eBay, Amazon and AliExpress to stop promoting these companies. As RZA pursues justice, his album with DJ Scratch will arrive next month.
Saturday Afternoon Kung-Fu Theater is scheduled to release on March 4 via 36 Chambers ALC/MNRK Music Group.
