Talib Kweli & Madlib Are Releasing A Sequel to 'Liberation' on Luminary

Featuring new single "After These Messages" with Amani, Talib Kweli and Madlib are releasing a Luminary-exclusive album.

Talib Kweli is extending his run on Luminary. The Black Star member will release the sequel to his 2007 album with Madlib, Liberation, next month. Similar to last years Black Star album No Fear of Time, Liberation 2 will be a Luminary-exclusive.

The first Liberation 2 single, "After These Messages," features Kweli's son, Amani, while additional tracks on the album feature the rapper's daughter, Diani. Liberation 2 is Kweli's latest album available for streaming on Luminary. Kweli and Yasiin Bey are also co-hosts of the Luminary original podcast, The Midnight Miracle, with Dave Chappelle.

While recording Liberation 2, Kweli made two trips to Africa, including Ghana during the Black Star Line Festival. Appearing on the album are Q-Tip, Wildchild, Roc Marciano, Westside Gunn, and a posthumous contribution from Mac Miller.

"This album was written, recorded and mixed over ten years. It's expansive in concept but tight in its substance and approach," Kweli said in a statement about Liberation 2. "People today are taking stock of what is most important –  family, health, wellness, love.  The materialism and debauchery that is stereotypically associated with hip hop has lost some of its luster.  Madlib and I have been consistent in our messaging. Never has there been a better time for such honest, message driven music that pays tribute to the sounds that came before us.”
