Kendrick Lamar Leads the 2017 MTV VMAs Nominations With Eight

On August 27th about a month from now the MTV Video Music Awards will go down live from The Forum in Inglewood, California.

Earlier today, MTV revealed the nominations for the VMAs during an Instagram Live session (that's 2017 for you). You can already tell who is going to have a big night: Kendrick Lamar leads the pack with eight nominations, including Video of the Year, Artist of the Year, Best Hip-Hop, and "Best Direction." Right Behind K.Dot are artists like The Weeknd and Katy Perry, who each picked up five nominations.

MTV is trying some new and interesting things with the VMAs this year. For one, they ditched the gendered "Artist of the Year" categories, and instead just have one "Artist of the Year" award. They also have a category called "Best Fight Against the System" which is centered around songs that have a conscious message.
