Watch Ms. Lauryn Hill Deliver an Electrifying Performance in Louis Vuitton's New Short Film
The monochromatic short displays the luxury fashion giant's upcoming collection along with stirring recalibrations of gems from Ms. Hill's catalog.
Ms. Lauryn Hill is the latest to score a campaign spot for Louis Vuitton's upcoming SS21 collection.
Appearing alongside her band and daughter Selah in the 20-minute clip, Ms. Hill reimagines revered classics and more recent works in an electrifying live performance for the luxury fashion house. Recorded at MLH Studio in New Jersey in late July, the video captures live-and-direct recalibrations of "Lost Ones," "Everything is Everything," "Doo Wop," and "Ex-Factor," as well as the 2014 protest anthem "Black Rage" and her Queen & Slim soundtrack contribution, "Guarding The Gates."
In a caption for the video, Louis Vuitton designer and creative director, Virgil Abloh, referred to Ms. Hill as "forever a muse." Abloh's latest collection debuted in Shanghai last month. It features upcycled materials from surplus textiles and is reportedly inspired, at least in part, by the late cosmic jazz giant, Sun Ra. The new collection is also serving as a landing zone for some of Abloh's favorite musicians. Prior to Ms. Hill's feature, a pair of kaleidoscopic animations featured new music from SA-RA, marking a rare reunion of the West Coast production team with assistance from Thundercat, Terrace Martin, Gary Bartz, and Kamasi Washington.
