Albums We’re Excited to Hear in January

The new year begins with new projects from MIKE, Mac Miller and more.

2025 will kick off with a handful of notable new album releases.

The talented lyricist MIKE will be dropping Showbiz, while Lil Baby will be releasing WHAM (Who Hard as Me), the last in his Hard series.

Also releasing a new project will be FKA Twigs, whose last studio album, Magdalene, was released back in 2020.

January will also bring with it the second posthumous Mac Miller album, Balloonerism, which was made around the release of his Faces mixtape in 2014.

Here are some of the albums we are looking forward to in Januarry.

MIKE — ‘SHOWBIZ’

Slated to release through his own 10k label, MIKE’s Showbiz follows up 2024’s Pinball, the rapper’s collaboration with Tony Seltzer. Among the singles released for the upcoming album include “Pieces of a Dream” and “You’re the Only One Watching.”

MAC MILLER — ‘BALLOONERISM’

The next posthumous Mac Miller release, Balloonerism was recorded between 2013 and 2014 around the time that Faces, Miller’s 11th mixtape, was released.

The rapper’s estate shared a statement on the release back in November, saying, “We believe the project showcases both the breadth of his musical talents and fearlessness as an artist.”

“Given that unofficial versions of the album have circulated online for years and that releasing Balloonerism was something that Malcolm frequently expressed being important to him, we felt it most appropriate to present an official version of the project to the world,” the statement added.

THE WEEKND — ‘HURRY UP TOMORROW’

The Weeknd will soon wrap up his trilogy that began with 2020’s After Hours with Hurry Up Tomorrow.

The album features production from the singer himself, as well as Pharrell, Mike Dean and others. It will also include guest appearances from Anitta and Playboi Carti, with the rapper appearing on “Timeless,” one of the album’s singles.

Along with Tomorrow’s release will also be a movie of the same name that The Weeknd wrote with Trey Edward Shults. The movie, scheduled for release in May, will star the artist, Jenna Ortega, Barry Keoghan and more.

LIL BABY — ‘WHAM (WHO HARD AS ME)’

Although he hasn’t released a single from it yet (he’s only dropped non-album joints like the recently-released “Touchdown”), rest assured — WHAM is on its way.

The fourth final part in his Hard series, Lil Baby is celebrating the occasion with a stacked album that features Future, Young Thug, Travis Scott, 21 Savage and more.

FKA TWIGS — ‘EUSEXUA’

Five years since her last studio album Magdalene, FKA Twigs will soon return with Eusexua, an album she has described as having the “spirit” of techno music.

So far, three singles have been released from the upcoming project: the title track, “Perfect Stranger" and “Drums of Death.”
