Amongst hip-hop's elite, there may not be a soul in the game whose early years are as well-documented as Kanye West's. We've seen his pre-College Dropout spark in rarified clips, heard the production prowess of a star on-the-rise in a leaked beat tape circa 2001, but this past weekend provided us with an unprecedented glimpse at the old Kanye. Like, really, really, old Kanye.
Courtesy of the all-knowing internets, a clip of a 12-year-old Kanye West surfaced, showcasing Ye's preadolescent swag in ways many of us could only hope for. The cut up home video shows some of Mr. West's earliest rhyme schemes and couplets, capping it all off with the what is perhaps the definitive Kanye line, "Nothing less could come from West," and all before your boy could even see Bladerunner in theaters. With all of the reminders of old vs. new Kanye popping up over the weeks since The Life Of Pablo's release, this should act as a healthy point of reference for which ever side you choose. Watch a 12-year-old Kanye West bust out a freestyle in the home video clip below and hold tight for all of the Kanye that is still to come in 2016. We hear another new album might drop this summer. Then again, this is the new Kanye we're talking about. So, you know, all bets are basically off.
