After 21 years behind bars, Alice Johnson will now be released.
Donald Trump signed a pardon granting clemency for Alice Johnson on Wednesday.
Last week, Kim Kardashian West met with Trump in the Oval Office to discuss prison reform and to advocate a pardon for Johnson, the 63-year-old great-grandmother who is serving a life sentence without parole for a first-time nonviolent drug offense.
Johnson is set to be released from federal prison in Aliceville, Alabama, where she has been serving her sentence since 1996. She was convicted for facilitating communications in a cocaine trafficking operation in Memphis, Tennessee and was given a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

Kardashian West told Mic that Trump “really spent the time to listen to our case that we were making for Alice." Adding, "he really understood, and I am very hopeful that this will turn out really positively.”
The reality TV star originally involved herself in Johnson’s case in October after seeing a Mic Opinion video where Johnson shared her story from prison. She then enlisted her personal attorney Shawn Chapman Holley to provide legal support for Johnson’s clemency petition.
“If you think about a decision that you’ve made in your life and you get life without the possibility of parole for your first-time nonviolent offense, there’s just something so wrong with that,” Kardashian West said.

In prison, Johnson focused on rehabilitation and was deemed a model citizen. In 2016, then-President Barack Obama granted clemency to 231 people, many with drug-related charges, but Johnson was not included.
